There Is A Light That Never Goes Out
Instead, it flickers.
It flicks me on and then it flicks me off
before it turns me on, and turns me off
But just like the stars
during the light hours
it still shines far, far beyond my
baby baby baby blue brains line of sight.
And baby, all I’ve been seeing lately,
are these clouds that hang angry
in a gang of shame and blame
in the same vein as an endless train
that never starts and always stops.
It stops and stop and
stomps on my prompts
until I give it up to the ghost
that chased me to the west coast
into the arms of a loving host
where I felt at home,
almost
but then everything that was ours
just became hours.
There is a light that never goes out
instead it shines so bright
that I forget about the night
but even with all of it’s might
it cannot remove the doubts
or my inclination towards flight
or my belief that I’m right
and you’re right
and that no one is wrong
unless we stop talking
because we’re both so good at talking
but we’re so damn bad at blocking out the light
that shines through this silence.
The light that shows that our alliance
was created before our compliance
the light that shows we’re both lions
that light that shows we’re both liars
that light that shows we’re both trying
to keep something quiet but
neither of us buy it but
I’m still waiting by and
trying to be a good guy and
let you be free but
sometimes I don’t control me but
we’re leaves on the same tree but
we never seem to agree
on how to say
I’ll fall this far
if you fall this far
and I’ll fall this far
if you fall this far
and I’ve fallen
so very far.
There is a light that never goes out
and I still think of you when I look at the stars.
